Testicular biopsy

Azoospermic patients’ sperm sample is characterised by the total absence of sperm cells. Among the causes, sperm calls do not manage to be produced (secretory azoospermia) or their flow from the testicle is blocked (obstructive azoospermia).

In the second case, sperm cells may be aspired from the epididymis thanks to microsurgery techniques or, alternatively, can be obtained through a biopsy taken directly from the testicle. These sperm cells would then be treated in the lab in order to be used afterwards in a cycle of ICSI.
